| On a Bi-Weekly basis, Stratics asks EverQuest II`s developer team a trio of questions and they provide us as much information as they can reveal at this stage of development. Below are the results of this friendly Question and Answer session which will be presented every other Thursday. Enjoy!
December 25, 2003. In this Thursday Troika, Steve "Moorgard" Danuser, Community Manager for EverQuest II tells us about customization and surnames in EQII.
How much customization will be possible? Such as custom armor colors or the possibility to change hair / facial hair colors or lengths / style after the character is first created?
We will likely allow cosmetic changes to characters after they are created, but nothing that affects their bone structure. So hairstyles and colors can be changed, but not skin color or the size of your nose.
We don`t plan to have player-tinted armor or clothing at release. Our game has been designed to have a consistent stylistic look, and we want to preserve that for now. Keep in mind that we will have an immense number of armor styles available, so color is far from the only means to distinguish a character`s look. We`re not ruling out allowing some color customization down the road, though.
Will last names still be a "rite of passage"?
Last names are tied to a social structure called a family. Families are like a guild, but are somewhat less involved in the political structure of the cities. You start a family by registering your chosen last name with your place of citizenship. That last name becomes yours, and the only way someone can have the same last name is by inviting them into your family. You can, if you wish, remain a family of one. Players can be in both a family and a guild at the same time.
Our reasoning for this is that we wanted to give last names more significance than just tying them to a certain level. Fantasy literature is filled with stories of great and powerful family dynasties, and we thought this would be a neat way to bring that sort of element to our world.
Will there be "town" clothes that can be bought and worn for role-play occasions?
Yes, we intend for there to be a variety of casual clothing that can be worn for fun or roleplay purposes. We don`t have the same limitation EverQuest did in terms of the number of armor/clothing appearances that can exist in the world, so our artists have a lot of freedom to come up with fun stuff. |
