EQ2|Ask SOE Nr.24 Zusammenfassung

    Ask SOE #24

Berek Halfhand: Character creation discs have been out for a few weeks now. What kind of updates may we expect with any future versions of the character creation discs?

Steve "Moorgard" Danuser: The character creation module included in the Starter Kit was intended to give our preorder customers a chance to get a closer look at the models and plan the appearance of their characters. There won`t be an updated version of the Starter Kit itself. There will be some tweaks and additional options added to character creation in the finished game, but for the most part the Starter Kit shows you what you`ll see in the final product.

Berek Halfhand: In a previous post you mentioned that the character development process will be very clear throughout. While it may seem clear to players at the time, they still may realize in the end that their decisions were not what they wanted. We know you can choose to run a quest to switch city loyalties, however, what other kinds of choices will players have in the beginning to change skills, stats, and other aspects they may not have really wanted?

Steve "Moorgard" Danuser: We`re not giving players an ability to revoke archetype, class, or subclass choices. As in EverQuest, we want characters to build a reputation in the world, and part of that reputation is the type of profession they play. Since the player doesn`t receive any discretionary skill or stat points at character creation, there is nothing for them to regret or worry about later.

Berek Halfhand: With the beta heating up and an almost daily introduction of new fan sites, what can we expect out of the official site to support the community at the games release?

Steve "Moorgard" Danuser: We`ll be expanding the amount of information on the site to give an even more vivid picture of what the game is like. Expect more detailed information on classes, subclasses, locations, and other aspects of the game.

The volume of new fansites popping up has been very encouraging. We`ll continue to support community sites because they do so much to help promote the game.

Berek Halfhand: With the two major cities separating the continent along with the element of good versus evil portrayed between the cities, what are adventurers going to expect when attempting to cross from city to city? For instance, will I need to be prepared to push my way through top level monsters in the middle?

Steve "Moorgard" Danuser: Getting from Qeynos to Freeport or vice versa is not intended to be a trivial matter. You`ll have to either fight your way or carefully travel through zones intended for characters of levels 20-30 to make it to the docks that will take you between Karan and D`Lere.

Berek Halfhand: As the game progresses we will undoubtedly see natural community centers popping up across the land. The two main cities for instance will be massive centers for trade and commerce. Unexpected and potentially unbalancing areas might occur. What are your plans to combat economic imbalances as well as geographic imbalances? Might we eventually expect to see an additional minor city or two added after release?

Steve "Moorgard" Danuser: We have deliberately spread out item drops and resources to give citizens of both cities access to the materials they need to advance. Our current intent is to maintain only Qeynos as Freeport as the starting cities for new characters coming into the world, which should keep both towns vital centers of commerce and interaction for years to come.

Other cities do exist and will one day be discovered again, but we don`t intend them to replace Qeynos and Freeport.

Berek Halfhand: Secret societies, the betrayal quest, and the black market all make for exciting ways to communicate with the opposing city. How do you intend to develop gossip and news about the opposing city when players may never come near it, preferring to stay in their base city?

Steve "Moorgard" Danuser: Player interaction has always been the best way to convey gossip and news. Even though separated by geography initially, it won`t take long from players from the two cities to meet each other. Besides, certain parties in Norrath have a vested interest in what goes on in the opposing city, and will be quite eager to enlist the aid of adventurers willing to bring back vital information from the stronghold of the enemy.
